Luigi Tenco wore on the photo below a great option for these last days of Summer, especially for those chilly days or mornings at the beach. Dark pants, a white polo shirt, and a light blue cardigan were selected by the singer of "Ciao Amore Ciao" for one of his record cover photos in the mid 60s.

Miami Vice Summer

Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas influenced menswear in the 80s with the ensembles they wore on the 80s hit TV show, "Miami Vice".

Sonny and Rico gave a lesson of style with these impressive striped and Prince of Wales jackets. The combination of the striped jacket with the striped t-shirt is not only very nautical and classic, it's eye catching. Add the final touch with some Tortoise Wayfarers.

Summer of '63

This photo taken by Chadwick Hall during the Summer of 1963 on an unknown location (by the settings it could be some ruins in Italy or Greece) blends modern fashion with ancient times. The "combination" of a print short sleeve shirt and white pants, with an Arena's ruins and several Vestal Virgin statues in the surroundings is somewhat artistic & original.

Jacques Dutronc & Francoise Hardy: St. Tropez Relax

French singers Jacques Dutronc and Francoise Hardy show on this Jean-Marie Perier photo why it's important to enjoy single moment during a Summer holiday or just life in general. With a relaxed and laid back attitude Hardy & Dutronc played their guitars while gazing onto the horizon of St. Tropez; most likely an unforgettable moment for both of them after more than 40 years.

Bohemian Hippie Summer in Puerto Rico

The late 60s marked a transition in fashion from the classic, perfect tailored, Mod inspired, and probably at times "too formal" clothes to a wide selection of garments that expressed youth, used lots of color, flowy and loose fits, and embraced milennary cultures.

Some of the intricate detailing on clothes included paisley, Hindu and Persian prints, and embroidery. Beads were a popular accessory, as well as the Ankh or Egyptian Cross, medallions, and wood rings just to mention some.

This ethnic/bohemian hippie trend continued onto the early 70s, as shown on this photo from an editorial that featured models Pilar Crespi and Ritchie White posing with several bohemian ensembles in Puerto Rico. It must be mentioned that Pilar Crespi, in my opinion, is not wearing a bohemian inspired dress, but rather a very nautical inspired piece; yet on the other photos she wore a Gypsy inspired look. On the other hand, Ritchie White is the perfect example of the elegant bohemian hippie look.

Like most 60s fashion trends, the ethnic/bohemian hippie trend has made a comeback in recent years, making it possible to pair modern with vintage pieces.

Valentino & Jackie O: Style Perfection in Capri

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Valentino were an example of style perfection while strolling on the streets of Capri on August 1970.

Valentino, one of the greatest fashion designers in history, wore an Italian inspired ensemble that mixed some menswear trends from the late 60s: espadrilles paired with white linen pants, and an original ethnic inspired print shirt with a belt over it. Meanwhile Jackie wore a classic combination of black & white with her signature oversized sunglasses.

Jeanloup Sieff & Jean Shrimpton: Avedon's Santorini Experience

Richard Avedon's photographs of Jean Shrimpton & Jeanloup Sieff on Santorini circa 1966-1967 are amongst the best examples of 60s fashion photography. Avedon managed to capture the impressive beauty of Santorini, Shrimpton's striking looks, and perfect Summer holiday ensembles within these photos, some of which have been featured in the blog.

Below another photo from this series that shows Sieff & "The Shrimp" relaxing on the coast of Santorini.

Paul Newman & Elizabeth Taylor: Gucci Minimalism On Set

Elizabeth Taylor & Paul Newman co-starred in 1958's "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". These two cinema legends not only delivered an unforgettable perfomance of this Tennessee Williams play on the silver screen, but also showed off their outstanding sense of style while relaxing on set.

Paul Newman kept it simple and minimalistic with a pair of jeans and an open V-neck t-shirt, adding a cool touch with his pendant necklace. Meanwhile Elizabeth Taylor wore a very classic 50s ensemble and caught everyone's attention with her Gucci Bamboo bag, nowadays a must have for any stylish woman.

Alain Delon & Brigitte Bardot: Twist a St. Tropez

St. Tropez was setting for some of the most memorable Summer moments during the 60s and 70s. Some of these have been featured within the blog; Mick & Bianca Jagger's wedding, Brigitte Bardot with Gunter Sachs, the party nights commanded by Gigi Rizzi, and the filming of the memorable Delon/Schneider/Birkin/Ronet film "La Piscine".

On August 1968, Brigitte Bardot and Alain Delon were invited by French yachtsman, Eric Tabarly, to sail some hours around the Mediterranean on his boat. For the occasion both French cinema icons opted for black ensembles, yet they added a touch of color by wearing bright floral patterns. Delon wore a floral print bathing suit, while Bardot chose a floral sarong.

After enjoying the coast of St. Tropez, Alain Delon & Brigitte Bardot had lunch with famed French music producer, Eddie Barclay.

Arnaud de Rosnay & Windsor Elliot: Summer Scarves

Famed 60s fashion photographer (Marisa Berenson was one of his muses), pioneer windsurfer, and resort manager, Arnaud de Rosnay was photographed strolling on the streets of Paris with Windsor Elliot circa 1970.

Both showed that scarves can be worn during Summer, as long as they're made of light and fresh materials such as cotton, linen, or silk. Scarves add the finishing and creative touch to any ensemble.
