April 26, 2012 marked the 35th anniversary of the opening of Studio 54. The best club of all time opened its doors on April 26, 1977; changing nightlife forever. Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, along with Carmen D'Alessio were behind the club's success.
Just one week after it's opening, Studio 54 was the setting for Bianca Jagger's birthday celebration, which was organized by Halston. The next day photos from this party graced the media, being the photos of Bianca riding a horse and sitting next to her then husband, Mick Jagger, and Mikhail Baryshnikov the most memorable ones. Also present that evening were Halston, Margaux Hemingway, and Alana Hamilton.
Over the next year, Studio 54 established itself as New York City's top night spot, with the likes of: Liza Minelli, Andy Warhol, Farah Fawcett, Truman Capote, Dolly Parton, Suzanne Sommers, Lauren Hutton, Diane and Egon Von Furstenberg, Grace Jones, Divine, Yves Saint Laurent, Cher, David Geffen, Lorna Luft, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Jerry Hall, Debbie Harry, Brooke Shields, Calvin Klein, Valentino, Nan Kempner, Gloria Swanson, Cary Grant, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, and many other icons of the time in attendance.
Parties such as the YSL Opium launch, the Beatles night, the Grease premiere, and Valentino's Circus were key Studio 54 moments. Yet one of the most remembered parties was Studio 54's first anniversary party on April 26, 1978 due to its unique act. Studio 54 icons and regular patrons, Liza Minelli, Bianca Jagger, Halston, and Andy Warhol took the stage to sing Happy Birthday to the club where they danced the night away.
